Get Encouraged.

At Encouraged Psychology, we stand by our name.

We will support you, lending a soft, steady hand as you face your biggest obstacles.

And we will push you, keeping that same steady hand on your back to keep you moving forward.

We strive for our clients (and ourselves) to be courageous.

We stand by three core values:

connection, curiosity, and constancy.

  • "Connection is why we're here; it is what gives purpose and meaning to our lives."

    Brene Brown

connection

At the heart of our work is our connection with our clients. We aim to truly understand the people that walk through our doors, for all of their flaws and all of their incredible strengths. We strive to form deep, supportive relationships with our clients that are build on trust. Above all, we aim to be authentic: we want our clients to know who we are and where we stand. We are straightforward, honest, and transparent with our clients - we do not keep secrets from you, just as we hope you don’t keep secrets from us. We want our relationships to be relationships between equals, with our client sharing their expertise on their own lived experience as we share our expertise on how to care for it.

  • "Be curious, not judgmental."

    Walt Whitman

curiosity

When getting to know our clients, we always ask the question: “what’s missing?” We assume that we are never done learning about our clients; therefore, we keep a curious mind and continue to ask questions about why a person might think, feel, or act the way they do. In doing so, we work to form patterns to help us understand a person as a whole. We strive to be nonjudgmental, always assuming there is an explanation for the way a person navigates the world. We understand that everything is caused, even if we don’t yet know what that cause is. We work to understand the “worst” parts of our clients with a open mind and an open heart. We strive to create an accepting space where our clients can exist just as they are as they learn to do better. We seek the truth, warts and all.

  • "The secret of success is constancy to purpose."

    Benjamin Disraeli

constancy

Our biggest strength is our patience. We know that we have an extraordinary capacity to tolerate things that other people, including other therapists, may not. Therefore, we have the bandwidth to tolerate the fact that change might be hard to come by. We know that problems can be complex, barriers can be overwhelming, and motivation can dwindle. And yet, we know that our clients are here because they want change. We strive to help them see that through, even when the journey is slow and the steps are difficult to take. We are steadfast in our commitment to helping our clients and strive to bring constancy to our work. We know that change is hard, and we are committed to be there for our clients every step of the way.
